    Silver Angel by Danic Lago.

Danic Lago is a British-Brazilian artist. She’s lived abroad for 20 years and is a modern alchemist. A poet with a creative and inventive mind, which unites her experiences and wanderings around the world in works of art.

Having lived in Switzerland, London and Mexico, Danic has always been an explorer. A collector of small treasures, textures, and experiences. Beginning her work in the fashion world, she specialised in trend research, with experience working with European and Brazilian designers. The restless nature of fashion led her to make poetry with her own hands, pieces of different materials became her purest expression.

    More on the artist:

The lightness with which Danic perceives the world made her understand that being in love with something has diverse meanings. From absolute enthusiasm to deepest pain. Her intense connection to paper makes it her most incandescent platform of transformation. The collages are the portrait of her unique view of the place that she inhabits in the world. Her connection with paper can be immediately perceived from her first piece. Without a canvas, a cardboard box was the base. The artist today works with intricate manual collages, a mix of materials. Mixing a huge range of elements (such as paper, wood, paint, fabrics, dried leaves, pieces of trees and stones) her pieces reflect the world. They have a Brazilian touch, a Mexican vibe, and a European breather.

For having worked for so many years with fashion, her works are a declaration of love in dressing, each piece a new character. Danic has the ability to transport viewers into a playful world of colours and textures with her collage. The varying interpretations of her work speak for themselves. Viewers become enveloped in the stories she tells. The artist explores the world and uses materials from nature, such as discarded wood. Here, her vocation as an alchemist shouts: reuse and transform. Embracing each material and thus giving them new life.

Quote on Danic Lago from The Curators Salon

Danic Lago’s beautiful original collage work is full of detail and texture. Her background in fashion is evident through the layers, folds and textures that make up each unique piece where she combines. Beauty and harmony is at the centre of her work. And she strives to balance layers of both textures and interpretation. On first sight her work can appear busy however it rewards repeat viewing as new details reveal themselves each time you look at it. It often makes me think of heavily bejewelled Venetian altarpieces. Which on closer inspection disclose the craftsmanship involved and the spirituality of the makers. – Gita Joshi, The Curators Salon
