Toward New Light by Bruce Atherton is a 90cm x 120cm oil on fine linen painting. Inspired by Origino by JOVOY
When I was asked to collaborate on the Origino perfume I spoke to François Hénin, the CEO and creator of the perfume. He told me that the origin of the Jeroboam brand started with the creation of the perfume extract called “ORIGINO” which means, in the Esperanto language, ”the origin”. For François, it was the origin of creation of a new olfactory universe.
This completely resonated with me and I immediately had a vision of what I wanted the work to be. Art too seems to be in a moment where it is necessary to return to its core values in order to progress to a new level.. the same definitely seems to be happening in the world at this time.
I felt that it can be frightening yet powerful to be taken in unexpected directions and the work reflects both the calling and the moment before commitment. The core of the work is a vortex calling the soul to new light, to new beginnings and to refined new experiences. A chance to leave behind the old unnecessary values and to return to something new yet profoundly known.
I understood that the creation of perfumes is a wholly creative act on a par with the creation of the highest art forms and I wanted to capture that essence in the painting.
I also wanted to maintain an element of the unformed and unfinished to allow change and interpretation in the work.. it is still progressing in my mind and on my easel and will most certainly lead to more dramatic interpretations in the near future.
About Origino by JOVOY
Origino, Esperanto for the ‘origin’, is the fragrance that started the entire Jeroboam range. It was this unique cocktail of enigmatic musks, created by perfumer Vanina Murraciole, that was the inspiration for the brand. Essentially just a ball of musks, bergamot and juniper, Origino is the perfect personification of modern musk. Worn alone it is like an olfactory signature, worn with another scent, it gives outstanding longevity and an unprecedented sillage.
